The corporate research institute of the biometric authentication security specialist company, eTUNNEL Inc., announced on September 11th that its proprietary “AI engine P2N2” facial recognition algorithm has received official certification from the Korea Internet&Security Agency(KISA).

KISA conducts various security certifications, including △National information security and network development △Information security policy and management methods establishment △Service networking △Product monitoring △Biometrics, and more. KISA certification is based on the results of biometric algorithm tests conducted by the Korea National Biometrics Test Center, known as K-NBTC. Certification standards are established by an expert committee to ensure objectivity in both the criteria and test results, and they grant technology certifications that meet the committee’s testing criteria.

K-NBTC has designed a testing process that adheres to ISO international standards, referencing the certification guidelines from the National Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST) in the United States. They have met objective criteria for user reliability requirements and promoted the commercialization of the Korean biometric recognition system. The recent KISA certification for the accuracy of the “AI engine P2N2” facial recognition algorithm is an official recognition that is expected to serve as a significant stepping stone for expanding into global markets beyond the domestic market.

According to Lee Sangjoon, CEO of eTUNNEL Inc., their in-house developed “AI engine P2N2” features a built-in biometric classifier that automatically distinguishes input images and loads the corresponding learning model of recognition. This unique capability enables biometric authentication regardless of the authentication method(Finger vein/Facial/Fingerprint/Palm vein/Iris). Furthermore, by eliminating the preprocessing step for biometric feature extraction and rapidly distinguishing the finer biometric characteristics from the extracted image originals, the algorithm requires minimal operation quantity. This ensures fast authentication speed and accuracy, even when embedded in ultra-compact computers(Embedded Systems).

eTUNNEL Inc. aims to rapidly apply its “AI engine P2N2”-based facial recognition algorithm to all existing physical authentication methods such as finger vein/fingerprint/iris, etc. and obtain all performance certifications from the KISA. The company seeks to establish global technological superiority in the field of biometric authentication security and become a world-leading specialist in this domain.

Currently, eTUNNEL Inc. is supplying decentralized digital wallets with finger vein authentication devices based on finger vein biometric security technology to enable users to conduct convenient and secure digital currency transactions. Additionally, the company is actively exploring international markets for access control systems using smart fingerprint authentication cards. Furthermore, the company places a strong emphasis on developing customized finger vein/face/fingerprint multi-modal authentication access control systems and smart door lock solutions tailored to its clients.

Building upon this technological expertise, the company recently achieved a milestone by developing South Korea’s first self-authentication confirmation system in KIOSK form. The KIOSK-style self-authentication confirmation system compares the user’s identification document(resident registration card/driver’s license) with the biometric information of the document holder to verify their identity before proceeding with authentication. It possesses the advantage of providing accurate and swift authentication in situations requiring identity verification, and is expected to be widely applied in fields necessitating adult authentication and self-verification.

Lee Sangjoon, CEO of eTUNNEL Inc. expressed his ambition to establish a production system for an integrated module based on the recently developed “AI engine P2N2” within this year and to expand into the global market, including UN agencies.
